The Senator of the State of New York, Mónica R. Martínez, recently visited the Amythille Memorial High School where she paid tribute to four outstanding students of 10th. Grade, Angie Ventura Melgar, Abigail Brown, Maleek Solomon and Cynai Gordon, who were the winners of the Test and Art Contest organized by the senator in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
On June 2, the aforementioned students of this preparatory school located in Long Island enjoyed an emotional afternoon sharing with Senator Martínez, of Salvadoran origin.
It should be noted that the beginning of this year, the four high school students were appointed winners of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Testing Contest (Amyville AMHS MLK Contest).
This contest was carried out together with the recognition of the “month of African -American history” (“Black History Month”) also organized by Democratic Senator Martínez.
The participating students had to write an essay or create an artistic work that would pay tribute to those who continue to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. or demonstrate how people can tend bridges among all communities.
In this way, Senator Mónica Martínez met with the 10th students. Angie Ventura Melgar, Abigail Brown, Maleek Solomon and Cynai Gordon to congratulate them and invited pizza and drinks. In addition, she spoke with the students about her career in Long Island and New York’s policy.
