Thanks to the Annual Distribution event of backpacks and school supplies organized by the Senator of the State of New York, Mónica R. Martínez and Justice League, more than 1,200 students throughout the fourth senatorial district will return to the classrooms in the coming weeks with new backpacks.
The event that took place on Saturday, August 16 in the parking lot of Knight of Columbus in Brentwood aims to help families with financial burden that preparations for return to school implies. In addition, it allows to ensure that children and young people have the necessary tools to succeed in the school year.
In addition to backpacks and school supplies, students were also able to receive barbershop services, painting, bright wires for girls’ hair, fast food, sugar cotton, sports activities and other family activities for free.
“September can be a difficult time for families with school -age children,” said Senator Martínez, a Salvadoran heritage official.
“This event helps more students throughout the community arrive at the classroom, safe and ready to learn. I thank our collaborators for making this day as possible and for creating a positive and exciting way for our children to prepare for the new school year,” he added.

For families who for some reason could not attend this event in Brentwood, Senator Mónica R. Martínez will also be the host of the third “community barbecue” to celebrate the end of summer to be held next Saturday, August 30, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. In Hermann Griem park, located at Wheatley Heights.
