There is a new face in the Mexican regional that sings to love without commitments. Ricardo Murillo does not interpret an idealized love, but a real one: that which hurts, which is not always corresponded, but that is lived with all the intensity. With the launch of “Nothing serious”, his most recent single released in June, this young singer from Hermosillo, Sonora, opens a new stage in his career, showing a more vulnerable, honest and reflective facet within the genre.
In a genre where the stories of intense love, sentimental revenge and overflowing passions traditionally dominate, Ricardo is committed to a different narrative: that of love without compromises, without masks, without final forced ends. “Nothing serious” is a northern ballad that fuses accordion, tuba and requinto with a direct letter that connects with a generation that no longer conforms with make -up stories. It is an issue that, in the words of Ricardo himself, “speaks of that beautiful love that was not reciprocated … and plays to suffer.”

His path in professional music began with an unexpected opportunity: the casting to become the new 50 -caliber vocalist. Although he was not chosen, his voice and presence did not go unnoticed. Directors of Andalusian Music saw in him a raw talent with an authentic and contemporary vision of the regional, and decided to give him the opportunity to develop as a soloist. Since then, Ricardo has not stopped building his artistic identity, betting on songs that reflect real emotions and a production where Active-Te.
Formed at the House of Culture and the University of Sonora, Murillo combines academic discipline, artistic sensibility and a strong connection with their roots. In each of its interpretations, the desire to convey more than sounds is perceived: an emotion, a shared experience. “Nothing serious” marks the beginning of a stage where the artist seeks to define himself not by labels, but for the honesty of his proposal.
With this new single and the album that is coming, Ricardo Murillo confirms that it is much more than a promise of the Mexican regional. It is a new voice that sings from the truth, from open wounds and from a more sincere masculinity. An artist who is not afraid to show himself as he is, and who is ready to connect with those who have also loved … without guarantees.

“Nothing serious” shows a more vulnerable and honest side of love. What inspired you to tell this story from that perspective?
It is a love and heartbreak that is very common among people, because it tells a very beautiful and natural love, but that was not reciprocated. There had to be a song that described that situation of the relationship where it has to suffer.
What does it mean for you to launch this topic at this time in your career?
I am very excited because it marks a lot the style that we want to define us now. A romantic style and that is good to exploit what Ricardo Murillo is and make it very clear.
Do you think that love without commitments is a reflection of what your generation lives?
Yes, my generation and several more. Bigger and more girls. I feel that it is something that is going very common and, therefore, there had to be a song that described it 100 percent.

The classic northern sound is still present, but with a nostalgic vibes. How did you achieve that balance between the traditional and the emotional?
That sound we are looking for in the song tries to look at everything that is a good, beautiful melody, combining it with a letter that has content and a certain message. I feel that the combination of both things is what makes it so special.
You mention that this theme is part of a new facet in your music. What can you expect your audience of the album that comes?
The next album is very varied. We started with a corrido called “The Augury”, then there was also a romantic cumbia called “Give You My Love”, and now this third song is that of “Nothing serious”, which is a ballad guy sung with a lot of heart. That announces that the album is varied and very nourished by very good songs. Wait many surprises on this album.
What do you expect those who listen to “nothing serious” for the first time?
I hope you feel a pain and seek a drink of beer and continue listening to songs of those or be repeating “nothing serious” a thousand times.

What was the biggest personal or creative challenge when opening in this way in your letters?
The truth is that you have to live to the fullest … be intense. It is to surrender. If we are going to suffer, then we suffer, and if we are going to be happy, then we are going to enjoy. It is intensifying those feelings, that’s why I liked to sing this song, to share it with everyone.
How would you like to remind you as an artist within the Mexican regional?
I would like to remind me as an artist who likes music a lot, a lot to share the feelings and emotions that music entails, both in arrangements and in the sung, interpretation. I really like to interpret and look for meaning to the songs, and that people feel it together with me.
