For the fifth consecutive time, the New York legislature approved the resolution that officially declared the “Peruvian Gastronomy Weekend” throughout the State of New York, under the initiative of the renowned organization SUMAQ Peruvian Food Festival.
Its founder and CEO, Vicky Díaz expressed her excitement and satisfaction at the achievement achieved at the state level.
«New York is one of the most important cities in the world and the recognition of our exquisite food is very transcendental and historic. We continue making history and next August 8th and 9th we will celebrate the 12th in a big way. Anniversary of the SUMAQ Peruvian Food Festival and the Peruvian Gastronomy Weekend throughout the state of New York, with the participation of important chefs from here and Peru,” noted Vicky.
A special recognition goes to the assemblyman and Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Philip Ramos, who presented and supported this project to ensure that Peruvian culinary art is valued by the authorities.
Among the prominent personalities was also the first indigenous assemblywoman in New York, the Peruvian Marcela Mitaynes, who thanked the presence and support of Rosario Pajuelo, Director Trade Commission of Peru in New York; Kevin Segura Ramirez, Ambassador of SUMAQ Peruvian Food Festival 2026; and Vilma Guia Orihuela, Ambassador of SUMAQ Peruvian Food Festival 2026.
Likewise, William Díaz Marin and Vicky Díaz, founders of SUMAQ Peruvian Food Festival; Angela Casas Guia, from “Los Andes” Restaurant; Dionela Díaz, from SUMAQ Peruvian Food Festival 2026; Graciela Tiza Iparraguirre, Ambassador of SUMAQ Peruvian Food Festival 2018; Blanca Garcia Díaz, Ambassador of SUMAQ Peruvian Food Festival 2022; Gloria Cárdenas Donayre;

The large delegation – at the end of the emotional ceremony – took a tour of the most enigmatic areas of the New York Capitol.
