The Customs Immigration and Control Service (ICE) had stopped until June 15 to 56,397 immigrants as part of the Deportations campaign of the administration of President Donald Trump, but only 28.3 % of them had a criminal record, including there minor traffic crimes, according to data released this Monday.
The arrests constitute a record figure since May 2019, since the transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) of the University of Syracuse in New York, began publishing these biweekly statistics, as indicated by the organization in a statement.
The data that as the rhythm of arrests and detainees of the Department of National Security increases increases, the number of immigrants with criminal history is reduced, despite the fact that the Trump government has justified its intense campaign of expulsions for being allegedly dealing with people with criminal records.
However, according to Trac, as of June 15, 71.7 % of the detainees had no criminal record.
“That means that only 28.3 % had been convicted of some crime, including many who had only been convicted of traffic infractions or minor crimes, or an infraction that resulted only in a fine, such as not taking the dog with a strap, fishing without permission or driving a vehicle with a rear light off,” indicates the Trac report.
ICE detention alternative programs (ATD) keep 183,756 families and single individuals under surveillance, according to data updated to June 14.
Trac Reports said he made an adjustment in his definition of criminal record. Before, any person registered by ICE with “pending criminal charges” was identified as such. From this update and from now on, the detainees with pending positions will not be considered as people with criminal record.
