In observance of October Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D-Valley Stream) has teamed up with NuHealth and Emanuel Baptist Church Women’s Ministry to bring breast cancer screening service to the Elmont neighborhood of Long Island.
This event scheduled for Saturday, October 18, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, at Emanuel Baptist Church (located at 1880 Pelham Street, Elmont, NY 11003) where free mammograms will be offered to women age 40 and older.
Appointments include a breast exam by a nurse, a mammogram, and self-exam instructions.
Appointments are required and mammograms are free for uninsured women, depending on eligibility requirements. Women with health insurance may have to pay a co-pay.
Women who have been more than a year since their last mammogram will need to obtain a prescription (if they have insurance) and provide previous x-rays (if available).
“Early detection is critical to surviving and thriving after a breast cancer diagnosis. By coming together as a community, we can raise awareness and provide sufferers with the resources they need to recover and thrive,” stated Legislator Solages. “I am very pleased to partner with Emanuel Baptist Church and NuHealth to bring these life-saving services to Elmont.”
