The acclaimed musical “Mexodus” premieres in New York this September, taking the public to a historical and musical trip that is rarely told. Produced by Audible Theater and P3 Productions, the show will begin preliminary functions on Tuesday, September 9 and will have its official premiere on Thursday 18 at the Minetata Lane Theater. Tickets are now available at Audiblexminetta.com.
Written and interpreted by Brian Quijada and Nygel D. Robinson, under the direction of David Mendizábal, “Mexodus” offers a unique look at the southern route that crossed thousands of people to escape slavery to Mexico, contrasting with the famous Underground Railroad to the north. The work combines rap, reggaeton, gospel, soul and musical theater with Live Looping, creating an intense and enveloping sound show.
Critics from all over the country have highlighted the energy and creativity of the musical. Metro Weekly DC described him as “a vibrant narration of an unfashed chapter of American history”, while the Bay Area News Group said that “drags the viewer with his overwhelming sound power … Quijada and Robinson rapped with the soul.”
The premiere in New York will also be recorded as an original audible, taking this story to millions of listeners worldwide, consolidating the international impact of production.
Quijada and Robinson shared: “Music allows us to connect this vital story with our current world. We are excited to join forces with Audible Theater and P3 Productions to present this premiere in New York and share the strength and resilience that are in the heart of this work.”
The creative team includes Riw Rakkulchon in scenographic design, Mextly Couzin in lighting, Mikhail Fiksel in Sound, Johnny Moreno in projections, Tony Thomas in Choreography and Claire Yenson in Casting, with Hope Villanueva at the head of the scene address.
“It is an honor to bring to New York the avant -garde work of Brian and Nygel and, later, share it globally as an original audible,” said Jeremy Blocker, director of Creative Production Live Audible.
