McDonald’s NY Metro Launches Youth Futbolito Tournament Inspired by FIFA World Cup with $5,000 Scholarship Prizes

Let the game begin! With excitement building for the FIFA World Cup, McDonald’s New York Metro is bringing that passion directly to local communities with the launch of the new “McDonald’s NY Metro Youth Soccer Series,” a community initiative that will combine a passion for soccer, youth and educational opportunities this summer.

In partnership with the non-profit organization Foosball Clubs USA, the program will include 9 foosball tournaments at McDonald’s restaurants in the metropolitan area, culminating in a final championship where the winner will receive a $5,000 educational scholarship.

Foosball is a dynamic board game commonly associated with soccer.

It is also reported that all foosball tables used during this program will be donated to local youth organizations once the series ends.

The tournament aimed at high school age youth, ages 12 to 18, will take place from June 20 to July 17 at various McDonald’s restaurants in the New York metropolitan area.

This is undoubtedly an event that will resonate strongly due to the cultural link that soccer has within our Hispanic community and the focus on supporting local youth through positive experiences, teamwork and community.

“The FIFA World Cup and other great global sporting moments have the power to bring people together and strengthen the sense of community,” said Brian Hairston, president of the McDonald’s New York Metro Owners/Operators Association.

“For the owners and operators of McDonald’s New York Metro, supporting the communities we serve has always been at the center of what we do. Through this Youth Soccer Series, we are creating spaces where young people can connect, feel inspired and access opportunities that support their growth, continuing our long-term commitment to generating a positive impact at the local level.

For his part, Michael Stahl, executive director of Foosball Clubs USA, a nonprofit organization founded in New York, added, “At its core, Futbolito is about strategy, teamwork and competitive spirit — values that help young people grow both on and off the table.”

“Partnering with McDonald’s New York Metro brings together two organizations that believe in the power of play to create opportunity. “Together, we are expanding access to a game that builds confidence, sharpens thinking and brings communities together through shared competition.”
