Latin Movie Nights at El Museo del Barrio
From August 20 to December 17, 2026
El Museo del Barrio presents Movie Nights: New Latin Cinema, a new free series that brings together five films from Latin America, the Caribbean and the Latin diaspora in the museum’s historic theater in East Harlem.
The series, curated by Ecuadorian-American writer and director Sebastián Rea, explores different perspectives of the Latin experience through dramas, horror, magical realism, documentaries and animation. Each screening will be accompanied by a theme that invites us to reflect on identity, memory, desire, justice and community.
Programming begins August 20 with Mad Bill$ to Pay, a Dominican-American story set in the Bronx, and continues monthly with Drunken Noodles (September 24), La Llorona (October 29), Un Poeta (November 19) and They Dream (December 17). All performances are free and open to the public. Early registration is recommended.
Tinkerbell Live: an afternoon of magic and theater for the whole family

New York families can enjoy an afternoon of theater, music and outdoor fun with Tinkerbell Live, a production by Frog & Peach Theater Company coming to the Los Amigos Community Garden in East Harlem.
In collaboration with the New York Restoration Project, the play features a bilingual, interactive adventure with games, songs, music, audience participation and characters such as Princess Snow White, Woodsman Will, Prince Dreamboat, the Evil Queen, Ringmaster Ron and Little Rosa Riding Hood.
The presentation is recommended for children ages 4 and up, as well as for adults who want to let their imagination go wild. The performance is free and offers an opportunity to enjoy theater in an outdoor community space.
Unicycle Festival comes to Jackson Heights for the first time!

New York will once again be filled with acrobatics, fun and plenty of balance with the 17th NYC Unicycle Festival, a free celebration that will bring dozens of unicyclists to the streets of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens over Labor Day weekend.
For the first time, the festival will have activities at 34th Avenue Open Street in Jackson Heights, where the public can test their skills in the Learn-To-Ride area, as well as enjoy unicycle basketball and hockey competitions, demonstrations, workshops, games and other interactive activities.
The program begins Thursday with a unicycle ride from Battery Park to Central Park and continues Friday with a 13-mile route over the Brooklyn Bridge to Coney Island. On Saturday and Sunday, the celebration will be set up in Jackson Heights.
You don’t need to know how to ride a unicycle to participate: people of all ages and experience levels are invited to learn, watch and enjoy this unique New York tradition.
