LeBron James and Luka Doncic lead the Lakers to the Brooklyn Nets’ home

The Los Angeles Lakers overwhelmed coach Jordi Fernández’s Brooklyn Nets thanks to Luka Doncic’s 24 points and LeBron James’ 25 points and exhibition of dunks and alley-oops, who enjoyed a feast of popularity on his last visit to New York of the regular season.

The Lakers’ victory was led by their two great stars. LeBron James contributed 25 points (highest scorer of the night), 3 rebounds and 7 assists, while Luka Doncic contributed 24 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.

The Slovenian was chosen this Tuesday as the best player of the month for January in the Western Conference. Doncic, who celebrated his first anniversary as a Lakers player this week, averaged 34 points, 7.2 rebounds and 9.1 assists in the first month of 2026.

One of the highlights of the game were the final minutes played by Bronny James, LeBron’s son, who received the ovation of the night, even greater than the one his father received, after a spectacular ‘alley-oop’.

The Los Angeles team left the game on track after the first quarter, in which they already crushed the Nets with a 23-45 score. The Lakers had a very precise start to the game, hitting 15 of their 18 field goals (83%), including 4 of 6 on three-pointers.

The Catalan coach Jordi Fernández, before finishing the first twelve minutes of play, walked around the technical area looking from one side to the other without finding solutions to turn the game around.

The stands of the Barclays Center in Brooklyn were full of gold and purple dots shown by the thousands of fans wearing the jersey of LeBron James, a living legend of basketball and sports.

LeBron, who already had an NBA ring before the Nets moved from New Jersey to Brooklyn in late 2012, was the center of attention of the match. Every dunk, steal, rebound or assist in the celebration that the Lakers’ ’23’ had was celebrated by the public as if it were a winning triple at the last second.

‘King’ James, at 41 years old and with an uncertain future for next season, was chosen as one of the reserves of the West team in the ‘All-Star’ game on February 15 in Los Angeles.

Match resolved at half-time

With the duel almost settled before the break with a 40-69 in favor of the Angelenos, the Nets took the third quarter 34-31, showing that the Lakers lowered the bar a lot and the game considerably reduced the competitive tension, with JJ Redick rotating his key players.

The match saw Austin Reaves return to the hardwood after an injury to his left calf that kept him off the court for more than a month, since last December 25. He played 21 minutes and scored 15 points.

Michael Porter Jr. led the Nets with a double-double (21 points and 10 rebounds) and Day’Ron Shape contributed another double-double, with 19 points and 14 rebounds.

The Lakers (30-19), who had just succumbed 112-100 to the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden, close a tour of eight consecutive away games, in which they have posted a positive record of 5-3.

The Nets (13-36), who on the last day already suffered a heavy 130-77 defeat at the home of the Pistons, outstanding leaders of the East, increase their bad streak in 2026, in which they have added 16 defeats for only 3 victories. Fernández’s team remains second to last in the East, increasingly further away from the postseason positions.
