Hostos nursing programs obtain their first national ACEN accreditation

Hostos Community College announces that its Registered Nursing and Licensed Practical Nursing programs have received, for the first time, accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

In addition to its New York State accreditation, this national recognition reflects the institution’s continued commitment to excellence in nursing education and to training highly qualified and compassionate healthcare professionals to serve the community.

While state approval allows a program to operate and prepares a student for professional licensure, ACEN accreditation improves your chances of being hired outside your home state (New York), makes it easier to transfer credits or obtain graduate degrees, and ensures that the program is evaluated periodically to ensure strong results, such as NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) pass rates.

This achievement is the result of a sustained effort led by the faculty and academic management. The institution extends its sincere gratitude and congratulations to Professor Diana Macri, director of the Department of Allied Health Sciences, and Professor Ronette Shaw, coordinator of the Nursing Program, for their leadership and dedication throughout the entire accreditation process. Their work, along with the contributions of faculty and staff, has been instrumental in reaching this milestone.

“This accreditation represents a significant achievement for Hostos Community College and reaffirms the quality and rigor of our nursing programs,” stated Andrea Fabrizio, Ph.D., vice president of Academic Affairs and Provost. “We are proud of the commitment demonstrated by our faculty and look forward to celebrating this achievement with the entire university community.”

ACEN accreditation constitutes a seal of program quality and integrity, ensuring that students receive an education that meets national standards and prepares them for success in the nursing profession.

This recognition comes at a crucial time for the institution, as Hostos is expanding its campus into the historic Bronx General Post Office building, located at 558 Grand Concourse.

This new space will serve as a hub for Allied Health Sciences and Nursing students, offering larger classrooms, modernized laboratories, and a hands-on learning environment that will strengthen both clinical training and academic support.

Together, the new facilities and ACEN’s national accreditation will further propel students toward their future career paths.

Hostos Community College remains firmly committed to promoting academic excellence and supporting the success of its students through high-quality, accredited programs.
