FIFA presents ‘Trionda’, the ball for the 2026 World Cup

FIFA (International Association Football Federation) presented “Trionda”, the official ball of the 2026 World Cup that will be played in the North American countries of the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Trionda’s evocative name, along with other extraordinary and innovative features of its design, pays tribute to the fact that, for the first time, three countries – Canada, Mexico and the United States – will come together to host the FIFA World Cup.

The striking design of the ball features a red, green and blue pattern that pays tribute to the three co-host countries, while the innovative four-panel construction with fluid geometric figures reproduces the waves referenced in its name. These panels come together to form a triangle in the center of the ball, in reference to the historic union of the three host countries.

The novel ball is adorned with iconography representing each host country: maple leaves from Canada, the eagle from Mexico and stars from the United States. The golden sparkles are a tribute to the FIFA World Cup trophy and emphasize the importance of the stage provided by the organization’s main competition.

Sophisticated technology

FIFA highlights that the “Trionda” includes several notable innovations to improve performance. Its composition, made of 4 panels, incorporates deliberately deep seams. In this way, a surface is formed that gives it optimal stability when it moves through the air, as it guarantees excellent aerodynamic resistance that is distributed uniformly.

Additionally, the embossed graphics—only visible up close—improve grip when hitting or driving the ball in the rain or in high-humidity situations.

The official ball of the World Cup is once again equipped with connected ball technology. This time, it includes a state-of-the-art 500 Hz motion sensor that provides information on each element. This technology sends precise data to the VAR (Video Assistant Referee) system in real time, which helps referees make decisions, including those related to offsides.

World Cup Pavilion

The “Trionda” ball was unveiled at the recent inauguration of the “soul of the World Cup” World Cup pavilion located in Guadalajara, one of the host cities of the 2026 World Cup, and the first in Mexico to bring the ball closer to the fans. The “Trionda” has also been presented at a special event in Brooklyn, New York; and another in Canada.

Jurgen Mainka, head of the Mexico Office for this competition, highlighted the football tradition of Guadalajara, which will host the World Cup for the third time and whose preparations are progressing solidly, 8 months away from hosting 4 of the 104 scheduled matches.

«The pavilion that we inaugurated reflects precisely how football is part of the Jalisco soul and of our community and our pride. It is very important to emphasize that this headquarters is taking very firm steps with the planning, in detailed coordination with FIFA, to receive the entire world,” he assured.

The pavilion will display a life-size ball and a 1 meter diameter replica so that the public can see it and take home a souvenir; in addition to showing objects and photographs from the 1970 and 1986 World Cups, the other two that the Mexican country hosted.

For his part, Pablo Lemus, governor of Jalisco, whose capital is Guadalajara, announced that FIFA will confirm in the coming days that the Guadalajara Stadium will host two play-off matches for the 2026 World Cup in which 6 teams will participate in March.

“They could be between March and April, but the most likely thing is that there will be 2 playoff matches for the Guadalajara Stadium and 2 for the Monterrey Stadium, I hope that in 15 more days we can have confirmation from FIFA,” he said.

The Guadalajara stadium will be the scene of 4 matches in the qualifying phase of the 2026 World Cup corresponding to groups A, K and H, including one of the Mexican team, on June 18.
