The Swiss Roger Federer, winner of twenty ‘greats’, returned to dressing in shorts this Tuesday to play, and win, a tennis exhibition against Andy Roddick at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York, which gave him a standing ovation, just a few days before the start of the 2026 United States Open.
Federer, 45, a five-time champion at Flushing Meadows, was honored by a packed Arthur Ashe at an event promoted as ‘Roger Federer, an icon returns to New York’.
«It’s nice to share this moment on the track with Roddick. It’s exciting to get back on this court and try to play some good tennis. I hope we did well,” said Federer after the one-set match, which the Swiss took 6-3.

Federer provided details of elegance and class on the tennis court, with a long series of backhand winners that were celebrated by the public.
Also in the stands was the tennis legend, the American Serena Williams, who hours before played the mixed doubles with the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz.
For the Swiss Federer it was a return to Flushing Meadows for the first time since 2019.
The exhibition event was played prior to a doubles match between Federer and John McEnroe, against Andy Roddick and Andre Agassi.
It should be noted that Roger Federer will enter the Tennis Hall of Fame next Saturday.
