Experience the Magic of The Wedding March: Love, Memory and Puerto Rico on Stage!

This year’s theatrical experience invites you to immerse yourself in The Wedding March, a play that celebrates femininity, memory, and Puerto Rican identity. From April 9 to May 3, 2026, the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater (304 W 47th St., New York) opens its doors to take audiences on an exciting journey between Puerto Rico and New York, where stories of love, heritage and transformation come to life on stage.

The Wedding March is a unique show that combines poetry, music and vibrant storytelling. The protagonist, accompanied by two male figures who represent different facets of memory and masculinity, revives the formative, humorous and moving stories transmitted by generations of women. Through her passionate and bold voice, she questions inherited ideals of romance and femininity, inviting the audience to reflect and be moved by each scene.

The play stars Jenyvette Vega, Gabriel Leyva and Fernando Contreras, with Claudia Ramos Jordán and Ismael Castillo as substitutes. It is based on Silent Dancing: A Partial Remembrance of a Puerto Rican Childhood by Judith Ortiz Cofer, and adapted by Rosalba Rolón with direction by Rosal Colón. The musical direction of Desmar Guevara and the choreography of Jorge B. Merced enrich the narrative, making each story a hymn to the culture, memory and life of Puerto Rican women between the island and the city.

From the first moment, the audience becomes part of this intimate and poetic experience. The work combines humor, tenderness and emotion, while transporting viewers to worlds full of family memories, holidays, songs and traditions that resonate beyond generations. Every scenic detail, from costumes to lighting, accompanies the journey, creating a show that is not only seen, but felt.

“This work is a love letter to the migrant experience and Puerto Rico, but also a tribute to my mother, Rosalba Rolón, who gave life to this piece in 1991 and entrusted me with its rebirth in 2026,” comments Rosal Colón, director of the work.

Performances will be presented Thursday through Saturday at 7:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday at 3:00 pm Tickets start at $32.50 and are available at pregonesprtt.org.

Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy this theatrical gem that mixes tradition, music and universal stories. The Wedding March is more than a play: it is a celebration of our roots, our identity and the strength of the stories that define us.
