Dominican journalist and producer Angie Hernández officially launched the company “Angie Productions LLC” in an event full of emotion, attended by family, friends, artists and media professionals.
During the presentation held on April 11, at the Puerto Plata Sea Food restaurant in Freeport, Hernández stressed the importance of mentoring for both young people and adults, and shared his experience after emigrating from San Pedro de Macorís to the United States as a teenager. In this process, she highlighted the key support of her cousin Brenda Green, who served as a mentor in her beginnings.
“She was always focused and fought for her goals despite adversity, like the many buses she took in the winter to go to university just to learn English,” said Green, remembering the stage in which Hernández had not yet mastered the language, until she reached her goal of pursuing a master’s degree in journalism at the prestigious Columbia University.
The event was also marked by the emotion of his father, Ángel Hernández, who could not contain his tears when witnessing this achievement.
Likewise, her childhood friend, actress and model Sahira de los Santos, highlighted the talents of whom she affectionately calls her “twin.”
Hernández has more than a decade of experience in radio, written press and television. She began her career in radio programs for ESPN Deportes and later worked in production for Telemundo New York and the cable channel News 12. For the last four years, she worked as a national reporter at Spectrum Noticias New York.
Hernández, an Emmy Award winner, explained that her company will offer services that combine her experience in journalism and the arts, including her work as a singer and poet.
The mission of “Angie Productions LLC” is to train future bilingual journalists, entrepreneurs and writers in Spanish and English, with the goal of strengthening their ability to serve their communities.
Services include digital journalism courses for young people, focused on ethics and community coverage, communication workshops for entrepreneurs, motivational conferences and creative writing spaces.
The company’s presentation event took place at the Puerto Plata Seafood on the Water restaurant, where the president of the Freeport community chamber of commerce, Ben Jackson, along with members of the board of directors, cut the ribbon that marked the beginning of this new business stage.
“Angie Hernández’s vision is necessary for our community and her business is unique,” said Jackson when presenting the chamber of commerce membership certificate to the businesswoman.
Angie Hernández has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Brooklyn College (CUNY) and a master’s degree from Columbia University, with training in international digital reporting and research.
Additionally, she is a producer and host of the YouTube channel “Action with Angie”, focused on cultural, social and community impact issues.
The journalist has collaborated with various public and private institutions, and continues to expand her professional scope, with a view to teaching classes soon in her native country.
