TheDream.US organization launches @DACADreamsDelayed on Instagram, a new storytelling project dedicated to documenting the real-life consequences of DACA renewal delays and the growing uncertainty faced by “Dreamers” across the country.
Building on the newly launched site DreamsDelayed.com —a public record documenting the human cost of DACA processing delays—the account will share a “Dreamer’s” story each day, highlighting workers, students, educators, healthcare professionals and families whose lives have been upended by renewal delays, job loss and ongoing uncertainty.
The launch comes weeks after TheDream.US brought together “Dreamers,” educators, business leaders, and Senators Dick Durbin, Alex Padilla, and Mark Kelly on Capitol Hill to highlight the growing impact of DACA renewal delays and the urgent need for a permanent legislative solution.
The “Dreams Delayed” initiative was created to document these impacts and ensure that policymakers hear directly from those affected.
Through the “Dreams Delayed” initiative, “Dreams” tell how they have lost jobs they had held for years, been forced to take unpaid leave, had to postpone graduate studies or delay career opportunities, and have struggled to support their families, all despite meeting all requirements and submitting their renewal applications within the recommended deadlines.
“Behind every delayed renewal is a person whose life has been put on hold,” said Gaby Pacheco, president and CEO of TheDream.US.
«These are teachers, nurses, researchers, social workers and community members who have been contributing to this country for years. “Their stories remind us that uncertainty carries real consequences, not only for Dreamers and their families, but also for the communities and sectors that depend on them.”
“By sharing these stories, we hope to foster greater understanding of why Congress must finally offer a permanent solution by passing the Dream Act.”
More than a decade after the creation of DACA, hundreds of thousands of “Dreamers” continue to live without permanent protections, with their future subject to court decisions, administrative delays, and changing political circumstances.
Through DreamsDelayed.com and @DACADreamsDelayedTheDream.US seeks to ensure that lawmakers and the public hear directly from those most affected, while continuing to advocate for a permanent legislative solution through the “Dream Act.”
