This “Gold Cup” has 16 national teams: the 15 best of Concacaf, all of which were classified through the latest edition of the League of Nations or the preliminary of the Gold Cup, along with a selected guest, Saudi Arabia.

The official draw carried out in Miami, Florida, on April 10, determined the following four sectors:

“Tri” for glory

“The group is affordable for Mexico, although the four groups are very equal at the team level,” explained the former Mexican goalkeeper Jorge Campos, one of the former soccer players who participated in the revelation of the groups.

The Mexican National Team, directed by Javier «El Vasco» Aguirre, shares this year’s Group A of the Gold Cup with the dangerous Costa Rica, the debutant Dominican Republic and the enigmatic Surinam.

The “tricolor” of Mexico arrives as a defender champion after obtaining the title two years ago and confirmed as the top winner of this competition, 12 times (in 1965, 1971, 1977, 1993, 1996, 1998, 2003, 2009, 2011, 2015, 2019 and 2023).

Meanwhile, the Canada Selection (is in sector B, together with Honduras, El Salvador and Curacao) faces the event as one of the main candidates to strip Mexicans.

In turn, the Panama squad (current runner -up of the contest) appears in group C along with the selections of Guatemala, Jamaica and Guadalupe.

«They seem good groups to me. For us it is part of the preparation for World Cup qualifiers, for that we prepare. Both in the Gold Cup and the League of Nations we have been protagonists, we have been in the finals, but we need to win them, ”said former Panamanian Lanter Blas Pérez, another of the guests to the draw.

Finally, the United States selection (second maximum winner of the tournament with 7 titles) appears integrating Group D with Haiti, Trinidad & Tobago and Saudi Arabia.

The set of “the bars and the stars” trained by the Argentine Mauricio Pochettino arrives at the Gold Cup 2025 with the obligation to win it, after his recent debacle in the Concacaf Nations League where he lost with Canadians and Canaleros, thus giving the football scepter to his archi rival Mexico.
