State Assemblywoman Jessica González-Rojas (D-34) announced a series of four free events during the month of March with the goal of bringing essential resources to district residents.
Initiatives include a secure document shredding event, a tax exemption clinic for senior homeowners and people with disabilities, a free tax preparation day, and a legal services clinic.
The free document shredding event will be held on Saturday, March 7, from 10:00 am to 1:45 pm, in collaboration with NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst. The activity will take place in front of Woodside Houses, at 50-53 Newtown Rd., Woodside, NY 11377. Attendees must arrive no later than 1:45 pm During the event, the USA Shred company will have a truck so that constituents can safely and free of charge destroy confidential personal documents.
On Monday, March 9, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, the Assemblywoman will host a Senior Homeowner Exemption (SCHE) and Disabled Homeowner Exemption (DHE) clinic at her district office located at 75-35 31st Ave, Suite 206B, in East Elmhurst. In collaboration with LiveOn NY, representatives will help residents reduce their property taxes and successfully complete their applications before the March 16 deadline. Additionally, a free tax preparation clinic in partnership with Urban Upbound will be offered on Friday, March 20, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, also at the East Elmhurst district office. Trained volunteers will help constituents prepare their federal and state returns at no cost. All preparers are certified and trained by the IRS. An appointment must be made by calling (718) 457-0384.
Finally, on Thursday, March 26, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, the district office will host a free legal services clinic in collaboration with New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG). Attorneys from the organization will offer guidance on tenant and landlord rights, immigration assistance, public benefits, employment rights, family law and other legal topics. The assemblywoman highlighted her commitment to working alongside community organizations and government agencies to ensure that residents have access to critical services that support their well-being and economic stability.
