Mike Abbondondolo, head coach of the Amityville Memorial High School boys soccer team, achieved his 200th victory at the helm of the varsity boys soccer program, following the Tide’s 9-0 victory against Miller Place, a game played on their own field on October 14.
Abbondondolo, who has led this program since 2013, has put together an impressive track record, leading Amityville to three New York State Championships (2015, 2018 and 2022), five Long Island Championships and five Suffolk County Championships.
Awarded five times as “Coach of the Year” in Suffolk, he has also coached four players who were recognized as “Soccer Player of the Year” in that county of Long Island, NY.
Adding to the program’s accomplishments, the Amityville team placed in the top 10 in the United Soccer Coaches Region II (Fall) rankings this season.
With a new competitive season underway, Abbondolo and the “Tide” have their sights set on fighting, once again, for the New York State championship.
Although Abbondondolo’s name is tied to this milestone, he is quick to point out that the program’s success has been a collective effort.
Throughout their tenure, Chris Gannon and his father, Mike Abbondolo Sr., have played a pivotal role in building and maintaining the Amityville men’s soccer program. Their long collaboration has been a key pillar for success, both on and off the field of play.
“Reaching 200 career wins is an extraordinary achievement and a testament to Coach Abbondondolo’s dedication to our student-athletes and the Amityville varsity boys soccer program,” said School Superintendent Dr. Gina Talbert.
“While victories and championships are certainly worth celebrating, what makes his impact so significant is the lasting imprint he has left on generations of students.”
«Thanks to his leadership, our student-athletes have learned the importance of teamwork, perseverance, discipline and the pursuit of excellence, both on and off the field of play. We are extremely proud to celebrate this milestone with him,” said Talbert.

Throughout his career, coach Mike Abbondondolo has helped build the Amityville football program into one capable of winning championships, developing talented student-athletes and establishing a tradition of competitive excellence.
Its success is a reflection of years of commitment to promoting sporting achievement, teamwork and the personal growth of its players.
“Coach Abbondondolo has built a program that represents the best of sports in Amityville,” said athletic director Evan Farkas.
“His ability to develop players, build strong teams and maintain a culture of excellence year after year speaks volumes about his leadership. Reaching 200 wins is an incredible achievement, and we congratulate him on this well-deserved milestone.”
