Dominican pelota is back! The 2026–2027 season of the Professional Baseball League of the Dominican Republic (LIDOM) begins on Friday, October 16 and baseball fans in the United States and Puerto Rico will be able to follow the action live on Televisión Dominicana, the cable channel dedicated to the Dominican community in the United States and Puerto Rico. For game times, viewers can visit televisiondominicana.tv.
Considered the highest level of professional baseball in the Dominican Republic, LIDOM brings together every winter six of the most historic franchises in all of Caribbean baseball, such as: Leones del Esgido, Tigres del Licey, Águilas Cibaeñas, Estrellas Orientales, Gigantes del Cibao and Toros del Este, in a competition that combines some of the most intense rivalries of all time, with an inexhaustible pool of talent, which connects Dominican baseball with Major League Baseball (MLB).
Dominican Television will have the exclusive rights to broadcast the matches of Leones del Esgido, Estrellas Orientales, Gigantes del Cibao and Toros del Este.
The new season will open with one of the classic confrontations of Dominican baseball, when the Tigres del Licey visit the champions Leones del Esgido on Friday, October 16, at 7:15 pm ET / 4:15 pm PT.
Attention is on the Leones del Esgido, who seek to continue their recent dominance of Dominican baseball after winning consecutive crowns. The historic scarlet franchise returns to the field as one of the main protagonists of a campaign in which the six teams will seek to dethrone the scarlet monarch to lift the LIDOM champion trophy.
The season will continue with up to more than 50 games between October and January, with up to seven live games per week, followed by the traditional Round Robin and the best-of-seven Final Series, where the first team to achieve four victories is crowned champion.

baseball stars
The Dominican championship continues to stand out for its close connection with the Major Leagues. Stars such as Junior Caminero, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Fernando Tatis Jr. have recently donned the uniforms of their respective teams in winter ball, reflecting the depth of talent and importance that LIDOM maintains within Dominican baseball culture.
Another of the big names linked to the new season is Albert Pujols. The Dominican legend moved from the field directing the Leones del Esgido, whom he led to the championship, and now begins a new stage as vice president of baseball operations for the Estrellas Orientales.
Pujols also led the Dominican Republic team during the 2026 World Baseball Classic, continuing his growing career as an executive and leader of Dominican baseball.
The presence of figures of that caliber is part of a tradition that has turned LIDOM into a winter home and development platform for some of the most recognized Dominican baseball players. In previous seasons, the league has featured stars and legends such as Pedro Martínez, David Ortiz, Manny Ramírez, Sammy Sosa and Nelson Cruz, among many others.
In addition to the live matches, the weekly sports magazine Virus Deportivo will have complete coverage and analysis of the season. Hosted by Emmy Award winner Omar Guzmán, Sports Virus airs every Sunday at 7 pm ET / 4 pm PT and presents daily capsules with the latest news from the championship.
