Nassau County Legislator Viviana L. Russell presented a $27,038.97 grant from the Community Revitalization Project (CRP) to the Westbury Memorial Library on August 12.
The library will reportedly use these capital funds — approved by the full Nassau Legislature on July 27 — to replace the aging oil-fired boiler currently serving the Robert Bacon Memorial Children’s Library.
During the grant delivery, legislator Russell toured the children’s library together with those responsible for the institution, inspected the boiler that will be replaced and met with them on the outside steps of the building.
“During fiscal year 2024-2025, the library offered 28,586 programs for patrons of all ages, underscoring its critical role in promoting early childhood development, literacy, lifelong learning and community engagement. This will allow us to continue serving the community and offering them the programs they value,” said Library Director Egita Johnson.
“Both the Westbury Memorial Library and the community are grateful for the grant provided by Legislator Russell’s office. The Children’s Library at Robert Bacon Memorial is a vital center for youth services and community programming.”
In turn, legislator Viviana Russell expressed “Libraries are much more than simple repositories of books and periodicals. They are multifaceted community centers of the 21st century that entertain, enrich and inform users of all ages.”
“It was a pleasure to see firsthand how these funds will be used to install a new boiler, thus ensuring that this important community resource remains warm and welcoming during the colder months. This investment will directly benefit the families and, especially, the young students who depend on the programs and resources offered by the Robert Bacon Memorial Children’s Library,” noted the Democratic official.
