More than 1,200 athletes to compete at Nassau County Games for People with Physical Disabilities

Nassau County Executive Bruce A. Blakeman and Comptroller Elaine Phillips joined event coordinators, sponsors and student athletes from the Henry Viscardi Center to announce the 2026 Nassau County Games for the Physically Disabled, which will take place Friday, May 29-Saturday, May 30 at the Mitchel Athletic Complex and Nassau Community College.

Each year, athletes from across New York State travel to Nassau to participate in a weekend of athletic competition and celebration with their friends and family. The 40th anniversary milestone brings renewed enthusiasm to one of the County’s most inspiring traditions.

Despite the loss of funding from New York State several years ago, the Nassau County Executive’s Office, in collaboration with dedicated private sponsors, has proudly maintained and expanded these Games.

“Every year I am inspired by the determination and spirit of these extraordinary athletes,” said Blakeman. “As we celebrate the 40th annual Games, I invite all Nassau residents to join us and witness their incredible achievements. “I am also grateful to our sponsors and volunteers, whose continued support makes this event possible.”

Athletes ages 5 to 21 will compete at the 2026 Nassau County Games for the Physically Challenged in disciplines including track and field, slalom, archery, swimming, wheelchair basketball and table tennis.

Participants represent a wide range of abilities, including people with visual and hearing impairments, spinal cord injuries, amputations, cerebral palsy, dwarfism and other physical challenges.

The continued success of the Games is made possible by strong community partnerships. King Kullen—America’s first supermarket—continues to be a long-standing sponsor providing meals for the athletes.

Hofstra University will once again host participants, while Nassau Community College will host key events such as swimming, wheelchair basketball and table tennis.

The Nassau County Health Department and Medical Reserve Corps will provide on-site medical support, and NICE Bus will provide transportation for participants.

Participation in the “2026 Nassau County Games for the Physically Challenged” is free, and more than 1,200 athletes are expected to compete this year. The event is possible thanks to the dedication of volunteers and the unconditional support of parents, families, teachers and coaches.

Now in its 40th year, the Nassau County Games for the Physically Disabled continues to exemplify perseverance, community and the belief that every athlete deserves the opportunity to compete.
