Edmund W. Miles Middle School, located in Amityville, was proud to recently host its annual National Junior Honor Society induction ceremony at an event held in the school gym.
This year, 22 students from this school were officially inducted, joining a long tradition of recognizing young leaders who exemplify academic excellence, leadership, citizenship, service and character.
NJHS is more than an honor, it is a commitment to maintaining high academic standards while making a positive impact on both the school and the broader community.
Being selected as a member reflects not only the students’ strong academic performance, but also their dedication to making a difference through leadership, community service, and ethical behavior.
The new members incorporated for the class of 2026 are:
Belkie Arevalo, Emily Casasola-Guzman, Bridgeth Chavez Ponce, Harper DeBruin, Natasha Diaz, Grayson Egan, Emely Espinal, Asnel Fernandez, Jessica Joyce, Richard Leach, Jonathan Lys, Esther Majano Alvarado, Angel Mendez Oliva, Celeste Mendoza Urias, Brianna Mejia, Keyla Perez Herrera, Jaxon Romain, Emily Tejada, Olivia Thomas, Nathan Thorpe, Jeremy Xo Chocooj and Allison Yanes Bonilla.
During the ceremony, students Gabriella Cabrera, Jamie Torres and Emmy Velasquez led the candle lighting segment, symbolizing the values and responsibilities that each new member assumes when being part of NJHS.
For her part, Principal Rose Hutcherson—accompanied by district administrators—praised the students for their hard work, integrity, and commitment to excellence.
The Amityville School District congratulates this year’s inductees, celebrating their accomplishments and the promise they represent to the community in which they study.
Through their example, these students demonstrate that true leadership combines success with service, generating a positive and lasting impact on those around them.
